The Clinic at Santa Maria Humane Society

The SMVHS has sterilized more than 32,500 animals in our low cost spay and neuter clinic since 1998. Procedures for healthy cats and dogs are available by appointment Tuesday through Saturday and are performed by fully licensed and experienced veterinarians. At the time of a spay/neuter procedure, low cost vaccinations, deworming, and microchipping can also be administered for an additional fee. Because we are a clinic and not a full service veterinarian hospital there may be restrictions on certain types of animals.

To better prepare for your visit please fillout the appropriate consent form prior to visiting Santa Maria Humane Society:

Vaccine Clinic

Vaccinations are important to keeping your pet healthy and The Santa Maria Humane Society offers a low-cost vaccination clinic for dogs and cats.  We take vaccine appointments, and walk in appointments, available on a first come first serve basis during the hours listed at the top of this page. Please call 805-349-3435 ext 109 to make an appointment.

Vaccination Criteria

  • The vaccination clinic is available on a first come first served basis during the hours listed at the top of this page.
  • This is a vaccination and microchip clinic only – no health exam or other services will be provided during this time.
  • All dogs over 4 months of age must be spayed or neutered and you must bring the certificate with you. We will not be able to accommodate any dog over 4 months old who does not provide proof of sterility. We will not examine the dog to “deem sterile”.
  • If the dog is spayed/neutered we will offer to schedule the surgery. Vaccines can be done at the time of the scheduled surgery.
  • Santa Barbara County Animal Services requires all dogs within the county to be licensed. Licenses may be purchased here for $23.00/year – CASH OR CHECKS ONLY, no credit cards. Must show proof of sterility and current rabies in order to purchase the license.
  • Residents outside of Santa Barbara County should contact their county’s animal services office for license requirements.

Microchipping

It is estimated that over one million pets wind up in animal shelters every year and are euthanized because they are never reunited with their owners. This sobering statistic can be reversed if more pet owners were able to microchip their pets. In an effort to continue its mission to remove barriers to responsible pet ownership, the Santa Maria Valley Humane Society offers low-cost microchipping during our vaccine clinic (hours listed above). Both cats and dogs are welcome.

Microchip Pricing

  • $20 per microchip, per animal.
This fee includes one year registration of the microchip with the owners’ contact information.
