Adoption Policy

Thank you for your interest in adopting a shelter animal! By choosing adoption, not only are you finding a loving companion, but you are also saving a life. The following are suggestions to help ensure you find the best match for your household and for us to ensure our animals will receive proper care for life:

  • We strive to match each pet with the best suited family
  • Please fill out an adoption application as thoroughly as possible. An adoption counselor will review it and may ask some additional questions to help you find the most suitable pet.
  • Before an animal goes home we request the following:
  1. All decision-makers (authority figures) to come in and meet with the selected animal, or at least call to say that they are on-board with the adoption of this particular animal,
  2. All children come in and interact with the animal to verify that they are aware of safe animal handling and that the animal is good with children,
  3. If there is another dog in the home, we like to do a "meet & greet" with your dog and ours to ensure they are compatible with one another,
  4. If you live in a rental, we will contact the landlord to ensure that you have permission to have an animal on their property,
  5. If you have other animals in your home we'd like to contact your veterinarian to verify that current and past pets have received proper care including vaccinations and spay/neuter.

The adoption can take place right away. We strive to make this process as quick and convenient as possible. We know our animals are excited to go to their new homes!

In the event we have more than one party applying for an animal at any given time, we will select the applicant that is the best match for the animal. If another party adopts the animal you had hoped for, please consider one of the other wonderful animals in our shelter. On the application, please feel free to cite first and second choice.

All cats and dogs have been spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, and are micro chipped before leaving our premises. We are now providing licensing through Santa Barbara County for your dog. Lastly, please make sure you are truly committed to caring for this animal for the rest of its life. The animals are counting on us to find them good, forever homes. We don’t want to let them down.
